== 1953 == ---- The first Corvette was desgined by Bob McLean under the guidance of [[Harley Earl]], the creator of [[General Motor's Art and Color Section]] for the 1953 [[General Motors Motorama]]. Ed Cole, Chevy Chief Engineer, got the Corvette to be announced as a Chevrolet dream car. Expecting a favorable reply from the showgoers, Cole had the car built as a preproduction prototype so that it could quickly be put into production if the response waranted it. Cole's hopes paid off, and the Corvette was an enormous sucess with the crowd. Three hundred 1953 Corvettes were produced, although the first two were officially destroyed as test vehicles. All of the '53 Corvettes had polo white exteriors and sportsman red interiors and black canvas convertible tops.
